How to Search Orange County Court Records

The Superior Court's Case Access page is the official entry point. It links each case-type portal in one list: civil, criminal and traffic, family, probate, small claims, plus the Criminal Defense Attorney Portal. The court's design is deliberate. A person looking up a criminal case ends up on a different system than a person looking at a probate file, because the underlying record rules are different.

Before searching, gather what you have. A full case number is the fastest route on every portal. A name search is the fallback. If you have neither, you may need to call the court records unit or visit the right justice center for an in-person lookup. The terms screen on each portal repeats the same point: online data is provided as a public service and is not the official court record.

  1. Open occourts.org/online-services/case-access.
  2. Pick the case type: civil, criminal and traffic, family, probate, or small claims.
  3. Accept the portal terms.
  4. Enter the full case number, or click through to Case Name Search for a name lookup.
  5. Complete the CAPTCHA or passline if shown.
  6. Open the case header, the register of actions, and any hearing or disposition entries.
  7. Download civil documents filed on or after January 1, 2008 with a fee, or request paper copies for older cases.
